Markets

Fodelia’s subsidiaries operate in growing markets. This growth is underpinned by strong megatrends, such as changes in consumer behaviour and pressure on local authorities to cut costs and outsource food production.

Feelia’s market

Feelia operates in the foodservice market, serving professional kitchens in both the private and public sectors, such as hotels, cafés and restaurants, as well as central kitchens run by local authorities and cities. The size of the foodservice market in Finland was approximately €3.2 billion in 2018¹. The market has grown at an average annual rate of around 5 per cent in recent years. Although economic growth is forecast to slow to around 1.5 per cent this year and to below one per cent during 2022–2023², the foodservice market is expected to continue to perform strongly. Factors such as the rise in eating out, an ageing population and urbanisation are supporting the growth of the foodservice market.

According to management’s assessment, the most significant segments of the foodservice market for Feelia are the lunch market, worth around 2.5 billion euros, the primary school catering market, worth around €150 million, and the rapidly growing professional catering market for the care sector, worth €100 million.

The market for Oikia Snacks

Oikia Snacks’ target market is the snacks market, which comprises crisps and other snack products. The size of the Finnish snacks market in 2018 was approximately 243 million euros³. At the same time, the combined size of the Nordic snacks market was approximately 2.2 billion euros, whilst the size of the European snacks market as a whole was approximately 31 billion euros.

Growth in the snacks market is forecast to accelerate in the coming years. The main drivers of this growth are the value placed on convenience and the rise in snacking. In particular, demand for oat-based snack products is forecast to grow strongly.
